Devotchka!

I have been waiting a long time to see Devotchka play live. They came to Neumos last night. And I'm going to dare to say it was one of the best live shows I've ever been to.

Devotchka's sound is like an Eastern European folk gypsy polka mariachi french jazz goth dance band. Yes, that can all exist at once. They are extremely depressing, dreamy, romantic, and totally dance-worthy all at the same time.

The show was amazing. They use all kinds of crazy instruments, plus violins, trumpets, and tubas. They dress sort of like gypsy lounge singing circus performers, swaying to and fro with bottles of wine that were spilt on their frilly shirts. They have incredible energy and stage presence, and were so much fun to watch! Everyone singing along and dancing (including tango attempting couples), so much so that the floor started waving up and down like it was going to cave in.

In fact, the show was so good that I only took 2 photos.

Did I mention that my fabulous roomie surprisingly found a craigslisted random ticket for me while I was at work, since the show was sold out?! Hooray!
