Hi, Granddaughter... This looks like a combination of clay, sand, mud dried thoroughly & crackling. Most soil will do this when it is once wet, then it gets very hot & dries very fast. We have a small area with not quite so thick of crackles in what was our lawn before summer came... These make great photos! Love you, Grams
